Organizing Vehicle Documents

Organized documents save time at renewal, at the repair shop, and when you eventually sell or trade in your vehicle.

What to keep in the vehicle

Keep only what you may need on the road.

  • Current registration card.
  • Proof of insurance as required by your state.
  • Roadside assistance contact information, if you have it.

What to keep at home

Store your title, purchase paperwork, warranty documents, and complete maintenance records in a secure folder at home, not in the glove box.

Maintenance record tracker

For each service, note the date, mileage, work performed, shop name, and cost. A consistent record supports warranty questions and helps a future buyer understand the vehicle's history.
